The Khan Academy proposes short 9-to-10-minute videos about the following subjects :

The videos show a blackboard on which a voice is writing while explaining … Magical !
The website exists in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese. I encourage you to sign in without hesitating a second, if only to try (you only need to click on a button to delete your account). It’s really free, you won’t be bothered by untimely ads and you’ll have access to excellent video courses.
edX : algebra, respiration, finance, marketing, anthropology, theatre and a lot more. Those free classes directly come from the best universities in the world.
And here are two real-world, very well-known universities that provide some of their courses for free online :

General knowledge videos on the internet
short videos
Here are three video channels. You can see on the screenshots below that the videos are well done, handcrafted with love and time also most probably.

If you search a little, you’ll find quite a few other channels according to your specific desires. Be curious !
long videos
You can find historical movies on Netflix or on streaming channels if you’re a modern pirate. You can also find wild-life documentaries, concerts and general knowledge TV quizz games on the replay page of the websites of TV channels.
All those videos will improve your general knowledge. Don’t let what is on TV dictate your video leisures. Make the effort to think about what you would like to watch. You will like it even more to put your feet up with a pop-corn box in your hand !

Project Gutenberg
OpenCulture
nice little texts
I could only find one website with nice little texts. If you check this same page in French, you’ll have three more …
General Knowledge Facts : facts, facts, facts, what knowledge should be based upon in those troubled times …

book review websites
Goodreads : if it has been written, then it’s probably been reviewed on this website. By lots of people !

You also have the possibility to participate in the forums of Goodreads.
Library Thing : as with Goodreads above, you can catalog the books you’ve read and review them. If you’re interested in books in other languages, you’re also in the right place.
audiobooks
To be listened to while washing the dishes, vacuuming or running, audiobooks are great vectors of general knowledge. I especially recommended you to listen to literature since you usually don’t need to stop the recording to think about what has just been said. With philosophy, even washing dishes at the same time may prove difficult …
